From the Container Yard,

to the Brickyard:

Great things happen at the intersection of Heavy Machinery and High Speed

Discover the incredible story of the Lanco Group of Companies and Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing. It all began in 1954 with Jack Lanigan, Sr., who founded the flagship company, Mi-Jack Products. An early distributor, and eventual manufacturer, of Rubber-Tired Gantry Cranes for industrial and intermodal markets, “Mi-Jack Products” was named after Jack’s sons, and his personal life motto “A Better Way” was the driving force behind Mi-Jack’s early success. What started as Mi-Jack Products, has today grown into the Lanco Group of Companies, with Mi-Jack just one entity of a wide-reaching conglomerate recognized across the heavy equipment, terminal automation, supply chain and sports and entertainment industries.

Perhaps through Jack Sr.’s mentorship, or by association with heavy equipment, the Lanigan sons were mechanically inclined from an early age. They took a keen interest in engines, automobiles and racing, dutifully watching each Indycar “Indy 500” spectacle starting in the 1970s. By the 1990s, Mike Lanigan, then-president of Mi-Jack Products, and a life-long racing enthusiast, decided to merge his family’s personal passion with their business pursuits, and sponsor a race car under the Mi-Jack name, kicking off an amazing new chapter.

The Lanigan family & Mi-Jack backed a succession of victorious drivers throughout the 90s and early 2000s. In 2002, they partnered with Bachelart’s Conquest Racing squad to form Mi-Jack/Conquest Racing, and Mi-Jack really started to make a name for themselves in the racing world. The Lanigan family would continue on to partner with Carl Haas and Paul Newman in 2008, (Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing), and by 2010, would settle in with the team owned by Bobby Rahal and David Letterman (Rahal Letterman Racing). Renamed Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing (RLL), the team would expand from a single-car lineup to having four drivers competing in the Indy 500. In 2020, the Lanigan family’s dream of winning the Indy 500 finally came true when Takuma Sato took the checkered flag for RLL.

While the Lanigan family may not seek the spotlight, their unwavering support have left a significant impact on the sport. Today, Mi-Jack Products remains the longest continual sponsor of Indycar, embellishing cars for over 30 years. As for the Lanigan family, they have not missed a single Indy 500 race in over 40 years, and faithfully watch each one from the Mi-Jack Suite, high atop of the Tower Terrace at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

And The Story Has Just Began. Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing has recently designed and built a state-of-the-art 120,000-square-foot racing headquarters in Zionsville, IN (just outside of Indianapolis). This new facility allows RLL to consolidate its existing operations, while positioning the team for future victory. This cutting-edge facility is the most complete of its type in the world, and will undoubtedly draw new drivers, technicians, and talent, solidifying RLL’s position as a leader in the racing world. “We feel really good about the future,” says Bobby Rahal.
